Place butter in a pan or microwave and melt. Then remove and let cool.
Preheat oven to 350° F. Prepare a 8x12 or 8x8 inch pan (8x8 will take a bit more time to cook, but thicker brownies) with spray oil and parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl combine butter, oil with a whisk. Slowly whisk in sugars. Then add eggs and vanilla until thoroughly mixed. Whisk for another 20 seconds just to ensure eggs are incorporated.
Sift in the flour, then the cocoa, then add salt. Using a rubber spatula mix the batter until just combined. Be sure to not over mix. Add in chocolate chips and/or other mix-ins.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth across the entire pan. Bake for 23-25 minutes in the 8x12 or 26-28 in the 8x8. Be sure to do the jiggle test on the brownies. If they still jiggle, give them another minute or so to cook.
